Check your authentication history through UIDAI’s official services and consider using biometric or Aadhaar locking options where appropriate. If money has been withdrawn from your bank account, contact the bank and report the matter through cybercrime channels promptly.
Biometric lock affects fingerprint-, iris- and face-based authentication; it does not have the same effect on all authentication modes. Aadhaar lock has a different scope. Authentication history is not a complete list of every possible photocopy or offline identity misuse. If you find an unfamiliar entry, check its context.
What should you do now?
- Check the history and alerts available in your official UIDAI account.
- If you suspect biometric use, follow the process for locking biometrics and filing a complaint.
- Report any financial loss or identity fraud, with supporting evidence, to the relevant institution and the police.
Which documents should you keep?
Authentication details, bank entries, alerts and complaint references.
Avoid this mistake
Do not share your complete Aadhaar copy, OTP or biometric access with an unknown verification agent.
A hypothetical example
An unfamiliar authentication appears in the history, but no money has been withdrawn from the account. First check the transaction context and contact the relevant institution. If there has also been a financial loss, separate reports to UIDAI, the bank and cybercrime channels are necessary.
Does biometric lock also secure a UPI PIN?
These are separate systems. Separate steps are needed to secure the payment account and device.
