Direct answer
Procedure Rule 7 specifies an ordinary application fee of ₹250 and ₹500 for a permitted joint application. The Tribunal may exempt an indigent applicant. Court fee, professional fees and other expenses are separate items.
Legal position and important distinctions
Read the amended Rule 7 provisions for OA, review, contempt, restoration and transfer applications rather than charging the same fee for every miscellaneous request. Confirm the current payment mode with the registry. Legal assistance can be sought through the appropriate legal-services authority subject to eligibility; veteran status alone does not automatically provide every applicant with a free lawyer. Fee exemption and representation assistance may require separate requests. Legal-aid criteria can concern women, children, specified disadvantaged groups, disability, custody or the applicable income threshold. The institution examines the supporting record and prima facie case. Distinguish approval from mere registration of a request.
Keep the case file readable
Use a chronology of the main decision, communication, representation, departmental appeal and response. Separate facts from legal submissions. Keep annexures legible and pagination accurate, and disclose earlier or pending proceedings. A large document bundle cannot cure missing grounds or an unclear prayer.
Track what follows submission
Monitor the diary acknowledgement, scrutiny objections, compliance deadline, registration and service. Check the latest cause list or order for hearing and video-appearance arrangements. Maintain current contact details and a written record of registry directions. A filing receipt does not itself establish a stay, admission or success.
Recognise time-sensitive situations
A final adverse decision, impending discharge, custody, payment stoppage or appellate deadline can require prompt advice. Explain the particular grounds and urgent harm for interim relief. General website guidance does not alter an individual statutory time limit.
Practical steps
- Check the application category and current payment instructions.
- Support any request for indigency exemption with evidence.
- Check legal-aid eligibility and obtain a written professional-fee explanation.
Documents to collect
- Income or indigency evidence
- Proposed application
- Fee receipt or exemption request
Hypothetical illustration
Payment of a ₹250 court fee does not mean the entire litigation costs ₹250. Copies, travel and agreed professional charges can be separate.
Avoid this mistake
Use the applicable fee rule and registry directions rather than relying on an agent’s unsupported charges.
