Under MoRTH’s official arrangement, authentic electronic vehicle documents available in DigiLocker or mParivahan are accepted. An ordinary photo in a phone gallery should not be treated as the same as a verified document.
A digital record obtained from the issuer may differ from a scan uploaded by the user. The document’s validity, category, expiry and suspension status are also important. A record appearing in the app does not mean that an expired licence is valid. Keep the updated official version of the document you need available.
What should you do?
- Obtain your DL/RC through an issuer-linked official account.
- Check the name, vehicle number, validity and document details.
- Present the official record or verification facility when asked.

Do not use a WhatsApp forward or edited PDF in place of an authentic digital certificate.
A hypothetical example
Your phone has an old gallery photo of your licence, but the licence has since been renewed. Show the current issued record from official DigiLocker or mParivahan. This can help avoid a dispute over the difference between a photo and a verified digital document.
Is a screenshot always equivalent to the original digital record?
No. For authenticity and verification, it is better to present the officially issued document.
